New power lines … “in line”
with design trends and landscape features
Grid Aesthetics, a meeting supported by Terna Italia, featured participation
of representatives of the European projects
BESTGRID and INSPIRE-Grid
A two days meeting featuring discussion, in-depth study and analysis of an increasingly strategic issue – the creation of a new type of power lines – with special reference to how they interact with the landscape and to stakeholders’ involvement in their designing and planning.
The meeting was held in Milan from May 19th to May 20thunder the title Grid Aesthetics. Supported by Terna Italia, the meeting saw the participation of representatives from the two European projects BESTGRID
(www.bestgrid.eu) and INSPIRE-Grid (http://www.inspire-grid.eu/).
On the meeting’s first day, international speakers focused on the different facets of the notion of landscape, the various ways in which it can be perceived as well as on some examples of how they can be planned and designed to fit into the landscape with due consideration of their aesthetic features and their visual impact.
The meeting’s second day featured a field visit to the powerline poles Germoglio and mono-pilone by Terna, featuring a novel design, and to the Maleo power substation, constructed in the Parco dell’Adda Sud natural park including visual impact mitigation and naturalistic engineering works.
